Two of my favorite movies are "Pride and Prejudice" (I'm a fan of both versions!) and "The Young Victoria". Hehe, I watched them both this week. 0:) First, my friends and I watched "The Young Victoria". I sat and swooned at Prince Albert and wondered how on earth I could get such a man in my life. Just look at him..... Not only is he super attractive, but his character is soft, caring, and loyal. It's impossible NOT to fall in love with him.
.
A couple of days later, we put on Pride and Prejudice (the Kierra Knightly version). I found myself despising the manipulative and slimy Mr. Wickham. What an absolute jerk... Look how slimy he is...

About half way through, I remembered that these two characters were played by the SAME actor. Strange isn't it? The media has the masterful ability of making you feel and think certain ways about people, situations, values, etc. How can they make you love the first and hate the second when it's the same person?
How else is the media shaping how we think?
I've never seen Pride and Prejudice (I know, I know, I need to seriously rethink some of my life decisions), but it is so interesting to think that actors are really just manipulators of the media. They can get us to believe all sorts of things like how "real men" only seem to exist on screen, and let's be honest, that's the only place we seem to find them :)
ReplyDeleteBoth fantastic movies! man, you are making want to watch the Young Victoria right now. One of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI agree that media has a way of shaping our view on things. Like what it means to date, or be in a relationships. I love chick flicks just any other girl but sometimes they are just to perfect. :)
I have never seen Young Victoria, but I lovelovelove Pride and Prejudice! Literally, I NEED to marry Mr. Darcy. It is so crazy how we can be completely smitten by a fiction character on TV after just an hour or two.
